1.  *     سورة المعارج  بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ سأل سائل بعذاب واقع     swr+ alm`arj  bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? sAl saYl b`Xab waq`     (An) asker/questioner asked/questioned with (about) a falling/landing torture.     A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall-
 
2.  *     للكافرين ليس له دافع     llkafryn lys lh daf`     To the disbelievers (there) is not for it (a) repeller/pusher.     The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,-
 
3.  *     من الله ذي المعارج     mn allh Xy alm`arj     From God, (owner) of the methods of ascent.     (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent.
 
4.  *     تعرج الملائكة والروح اليه في يوم كان مقداره خمسين الف سنة     t`rj almlaYk+ walrwH alyh fy ywm kan mqdarh Kmsyn alf sn+     The angels and the Soul/Spirit ascend/climb to Him in a day/time its value/estimation/ measure was/is fifty thousand years.     The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:
 
5.  *     فاصبر صبرا جميلا     faSbr Sbra jmyla     So be patient, beautiful/graceful patience.     Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).
 
6.  *     انهم يرونه بعيدا     anhm yrwnh b`yda     That they truly, they see/understand it a distant/far.     They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):
 
7.  *     ونراه قريبا     wnrah qryba     And We see/understand it near/close.     But We see it (quite) near.
 
8.  *     يوم تكون السماء كالمهل     ywm tkwn alsma' kalmhl     A day/time the sky/space becomes as the dead's puss/melted metal.     The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,
 
9.  *     وتكون الجبال كالعهن     wtkwn aljbal kal`hn     And the mountains become like the wool/dyed wool.     And the mountains will be like wool,
 
10.  *     ولايسأل حميم حميما     wlaysAl Hmym Hmyma     And nor (a) concerned (relative/friend) asks/questions (about a) concerned (relative/friend).     And no friend will ask after a friend,
 
11.  *     يبصرونهم يود المجرم لو يفتدي من عذاب يومئذ ببنيه     ybSrwnhm ywd almjrm lw yftdy mn `Xab ywmYX bbnyh     They make them see/understand; the criminal/sinner wishes/loves if he ransoms/compensates (sacrifices) with his sons from that day's torture (to save himself).     Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,
 
12.  *     وصاحبته واخيه     wSaHbth waKyh     And his wife/companion/friend and his brother.     His wife and his brother,
 
13.  *     وفصيلته التي تؤويه     wfSylth alty tWwyh     And his closest tribe/relations which shelters him/gives him refuge.     His kindred who sheltered him,
 
14.  *     ومن في الارض جميعا ثم ينجيه     wmn fy alarD jmy`a xm ynjyh     And whom (is) in the earth/Planet Earth all/all together, then (He) saves/rescues him.     And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him:
 
15.  *     كلا انها لظى     kla anha lZi     No, but that it is blazing/flaming.     By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-
 
16.  *     نزاعة للشوى     nza`+ ll$wi     Pulling away/removing to the extremities/outer layer of skin.     Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!-
 
17.  *     تدعو من ادبر وتولى     td`w mn adbr wtwli     It calls who gave his back and turned away.     Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).
 
18.  *     وجمع فاوعى     wjm` faw`i     And gathered/collected, so he comprehended/accepted.     And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!
 
19.  *     ان الانسان خلق هلوعا     an alansan Klq hlw`a     That truly the human/mankind was created worrisome/frightened.     Truly man was created very impatient;-
 
20.  *     اذا مسه الشر جزوعا     aXa msh al$r jzw`a     If the bad/evil/harm touched him, (he is) worrying/grievous and impatient.     Fretful when evil touches him;
 
21.  *     واذا مسه الخير منوعا     waXa msh alKyr mnw`a     And if the goodness touched him, (he is) often preventing/prohibiting.     And niggardly when good reaches him;-
 
22.  *     الا المصلين     ala almSlyn     Except the praying.     Not so those devoted to Prayer;-
 
23.  *     الذين هم على صلاتهم دائمون     alXyn hm `li Slathm daYmwn     Those who (are) on their prayers continuing/lasting.     Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;
 
24.  *     والذين في اموالهم حق معلوم     walXyn fy amwalhm Hq m`lwm     And those who in their properties/possessions (is) a known right/share.     And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.
 
25.  *     للسائل والمحروم     llsaYl walmHrwm     For the asker/beggar and the deprived.     For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);
 
26.  *     والذين يصدقون بيوم الدين     walXyn ySdqwn bywm aldyn     And those who believe/confirm with the Judgment Day/Resurrection Day.     And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;
 
27.  *     والذين هم من عذاب ربهم مشفقون     walXyn hm mn `Xab rbhm m$fqwn     And those whom they are from their Lord's torture, are afraid/guarding/cautious.     And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-
 
28.  *     ان عذاب ربهم غير مامون     an `Xab rbhm Gyr mamwn     That truly their Lord's torture (is) not trusted/safe.     For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-
 
29.  *     والذين هم لفروجهم حافظون     walXyn hm lfrwjhm HafZwn     And those who to their genital parts (they are) protecting/guarding.     And those who guard their chastity,
 
30.  *     الا على ازواجهم او ماملكت ايمانهم فانهم غير ملومين     ala `li azwajhm aw mamlkt aymanhm fanhm Gyr mlwmyn     Except on (for) their spouses and what their rights owned/possessed (i.e.: care-givers of the sick, elderly and disabled under contract), so then they are not blameworthy/blamed.     Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,
 
31.  *     فمن ابتغى وراء ذلك فاولئك هم العادون     fmn abtGi wra' Xlk fawlYk hm al`adwn     So who desired/wished beyond that, so those, they are the transgressors/violators.     But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;-
 
32.  *     والذين هم لاماناتهم وعهدهم راعون     walXyn hm lamanathm w`hdhm ra`wn     And those who, to their deposits/securities and their promise/contracts, (they are) protecting/observing.     And those who respect their trusts and covenants;
 
33.  *     والذين هم بشهاداتهم قائمون     walXyn hm b$hadathm qaYmwn     And those who, they are with their testimonies (they are) taking care of.     And those who stand firm in their testimonies;
 
34.  *     والذين هم على صلاتهم يحافظون     walXyn hm `li Slathm yHafZwn     And those who, they are on their prayers (they are) protecting/observing.     And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;-
 
35.  *     اولئك في جنات مكرمون     awlYk fy jnat mkrmwn     Those are in treed gardens/paradises honoured.     Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss).
 
36.  *     فمال الذين كفروا قبلك مهطعين     fmal alXyn kfrwa qblk mhT`yn     So why (is it) those who disbelieved (are) coming, rushing in fear towards/in front of you ?     Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee-
 
37.  *     عن اليمين وعن الشمال عزين     `n alymyn w`n al$mal `zyn     Groups of people/relations from the right (side), and from the left (side).     From the right and from the left, in crowds?
 
38.  *     ايطمع كل امرئ منهم ان يدخل جنة نعيم     ayTm` kl amrY mnhm an ydKl jn+ n`ym     Does every/each human from them wish/covet that (E) he enters a treed garden/paradise (of) comfort and ease ?     Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss?
 
39.  *     كلا انا خلقناهم مما يعلمون     kla ana Klqnahm mma y`lmwn     No but that We created them from what they know.     By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know!
 
40.  *     فلا اقسم برب المشارق والمغارب انا لقادرون     fla aqsm brb alm$arq walmGarb ana lqadrwn     So I do not swear/make oath with the sun rises'/easts', and the sunsets'/wests' Lord, that We are capable/able (E).     Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly-
 
41.  *     على ان نبدل خيرا منهم ومانحن بمسبوقين     `li an nbdl Kyra mnhm wmanHn bmsbwqyn     On that (E) We exchange/replace better than them, and We are not with being raced/preceded.     Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan).
 
42.  *     فذرهم يخوضوا ويلعبوا حتى يلاقوا يومهم الذي يوعدون     fXrhm yKwDwa wyl`bwa Hti ylaqwa ywmhm alXy yw`dwn     So leave them plunge into/engage in conversation and play/amuse until they meet/find their day/time which they are being promised.     So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!-
 
43.  *     يوم يخرجون من الاجداث سراعا كانهم الى نصب يوفضون     ywm yKrjwn mn alajdax sra`a kanhm ali nSb ywfDwn     A day/time they appear/emerge from the graves quickening/rushing as if they are to monuments/slaughter places running/hurrying.     The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),-
 
44.  *     خاشعة ابصارهم ترهقهم ذلة ذلك اليوم الذي كانوا يوعدون     Ka$`+ abSarhm trhqhm Xl+ Xlk alywm alXy kanwa yw`dwn     Their eyesights/understanding (are) humble/submissive, humiliation/disgrace burdens/depresses them,that (is) the day/time which they were being promised.437     Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised!
